Community Marine Debris Collection a Success
Tallahassee, FL — On September 10, 2025, the Southern Waste Information eXchange (SWIX) hosted a community marine debris collection event that brought together 30 volunteers who removed 381 pounds of debris from waterways and coastal areas of St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge.
The event was made possible through the support of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection with special assistance from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS), Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), Keep Florida Beautiful, Keep Wakulla County Beautiful, the Institute of Science and Public Affairs at Florida State University, MARPAN Recycling, and several enthusiastic volunteers from Westminster Oaks retirement community.
This collective effort reflects the power of collaboration in protecting marine ecosystems and ensuring a cleaner, healthier environment for future generations.
