Operation Marine Debris

The Southern Waste Information eXchange, Inc. (SWIX), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization operates the Southeast Marine Debris Cleanup Initiative (SMDCI) as part of it’s services.  The SMDCI is a locally driven, community-based marine debris prevention and removal initiative.

The goal of this initiative is to:

• educate the public about the issue of marine debris
• encourage changes in behavior to reduce and address marine debris
• conduct small-scale community based shoreline cleanups
• conduct and provide oversight for derelict vessel removal
