Record-Breaking Event Collects 317 Pounds of Old and Unwanted Medications
Operation Medicine Cabinet’s 7th Medicine Collection Event sets an all-time record for gathering old and unwanted medications.
Tallahassee, Florida — On Saturday, October 3th, the Southern Waste Information eXchange, Inc. (SWIX), in partnership with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Costco’s, Florida Pharmacy Association. Florida Society of Health Systems Pharmacists, 94.9 TNT, FAMU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, FAMU’s Institute of Public Health, Florida State University, Center for Biomedical & Toxicological Research (CBTR), and the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, held an Operation Medicine Cabinet event for the free collection of unwanted or unneeded medications (both over the counter and prescription).
This was the seventh time that SWIX in partnering with the DEP and the Leon County Sheriff’s Office has held this type of event at Costco’s. During the event, 163 Tallahassee participants brought in 317 pounds of over the counter and prescription medications.
These collection events provide Tallahassee/Leon County citizens the opportunity to properly dispose of their unused or unneeded medications, protecting the environment and lessening the chances for the illegal and potentially harmful use of these drugs.
